Histiophryne psychedelica has so far only been found in Ambon and Bali. It is a relatively new species as it has been described as recently as 2009. It is very rare these days with sightings every other month only and is therefore considered as one of the holy grails of muck diving.
This is a very young juvenile psychedelic frogfish, only a couple of millimeters in size. It will develop its stunning psychedelic pattern over time, when it grows out of the white and grey phase into a more red design. This should slowly take place in maybe one month from when we found it.
